I'm becoming a chef!

So cooking has never exactly been a strong suit of mine. Don't get me wrong, I can follow a recipe just fine, but when it comes to throwing stuff in a pot and making it taste fantastic, I'm no expert. I'm actually kinda horrible.

BUT....I have begun to surprise myself. I mean, I still haven't created a culinary masterpiece necessarily, but we certainly are not starving and everything has tasted really yummy. My favorite so far has been oven barbecued chicken. I made a barbecue sauce concoction made up of honey sweet barbecue sauce, honey, butter, mustard, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika and a special blend of Italian seasoning. I marinated several chicken thighs for a couple of hours, baked it for thirty minutes, re-basted it, and then baked it for another twenty minutes. The result was heavenly...it fell apart upon contact with my fork. Don't you agree??

Another of my favorite dishes is called Poppy Seed Chicken. It's quite a yummy casserole (in my opinion, a delicacy). It's also one of the easiest dishes that I know how to make. Cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soup, and sour cream mixed together, pour it over sauteed chicken, pour crushed Ritz crackers soaked in butter on top, bake for like 45 minutes, and then pour over rice. Fabulous I tell YOU!

So....now my question is - What is your favorite recipe? Send it to me! I would love to give it a try, because I am about to run out of things to make and I would prefer to leave Jonathan under the impression that I am a wonderful cook!

Thanks!

  2. It sounds like you're doing well! The BBQ chicken sounds great! Here's one of my favorite {easy} recipes for BBQ Pork Sandwiches: Pour a can of beef broth into slow cooker & add 3-4 pounds boneless pork ribs (or pork butt ~ it's usually cheaper). Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8. Remove the meat & shred it (using two forks). Stir in 18-24 oz of your favorite BBQ sauce. You can then cook it over the stove or in the oven unti heated through. (OR, it's even tastier if you have the patience to stir in the BBQ sauce, refrigerate it & want 'til the next night to heat it & eat it). Enjoy it on your favorite buns!

  3. Also, if you haven't been to allrecipes, you should TOTALLY go there! It's my cooking Bible, seriously! I don't mean to sound sacrilegious, but I refer to it for cooking like I refer to my Bible for life & godliness!!

  4. I second Allrecipes.com. It's a great resource, especially if you take all of the recipe reviews into consideration.
I used kraftfoods.com a lot when we were first married, too. Their recipes are all pretty simple and call for easy to find ingredients.
One of our favorite, easy to make meals is Spaghetti with Zucchini. While boiling angel hair pasta, slice two medium zucchinis (I prefer one green and one yellow); sautee in pan with olive oil, minced garlice, and oregano; heat jarred spaghetti sauce and a can of Italian style diced tomatoes in another pan; add satueed zucchini to sauce mixture. Pour over drained pasta. Add Parm cheese.
